Sometimes You Have to Be Your Own Super Hero!

A few weeks ago I attended an annual bowling costume party with some of my colleagues from the auto show and I had so much fun dressing up as “Storm” from X-men. As a little girl I always watched DC & Marvel comics and at one time I thought I was Wonder Woman’s long lost sister. (I had an incredible imagination as a child…then again,I still have it:-)

As I was putting on my costume and adjusting my platinum wig on my head, for some reason I started to feel more powerful; I can’t really explain it, I thought it was because I was just trying to get into character…but it was something else.

I looked at myself in the mirror and thought; unlike Storm, I can’t control the weather and I can’t leap a tall building in a single bound like Superman or just disappear like the Invisible Woman, but I do have super powers of my own.

One thing I remember when watching these super heroes, is that they were always saving somebody. It always looked like everyone was at a stand still; gripped with fear and instead of attempting to save themselves when trouble came, they waited for the super hero to zoom in and save the day.

Then I stopped for a minute and thought about my own life and the years I waited for someone to help save me from certain situations in my life and how powerless I felt at times. I though about the times in my career I waited for someone to reward and promote me to a higher position, waited for a man to truly commit and love me, and even waited to start my business because I need someone to give me a loan. In my eyes I was always a victim and needed someone to rescue me, until oneday I took back control of my own life.

So if you are experiencing some of the things I have mentioned (trust me there are more) all I can tell you is “Stop waiting for someone to save you, sometimes you have to be your own Super hero.” Use the natural powers you have already inside of you to change your present life and prepare you for the future… you can do it!
